SPH 4U - Unit 2 - Energy & Momentum
When objects move they have kinetic energy and momentum. In a closed system, energy is conserved and we can analyze the situation mathematically. As well, momentum is conserved. These ideas plus a knowledge of kinematics helps us understand various types of collisions, how elastics transfer energy and how satellites are launched into space, among other things. Rick Mercer goes bungee jumping with Rick Hansen - a good visual display of transfer of energy! Rick Mercer also experiences zero gravity with the Canadian Space Agency. Check out the Youtube videos.
